Released Hawkinson affidavit alleges beating of a minor led to seizures
Victim had to be resuscitated twice en route to hospital
An unredacted arrest affidavit released Thursday alleges that Daniel T. Hawkinson, 18, along with several others, beat a minor during a party in McPherson County which led to the minor having seizures.
The minor had to be revived twice on the way to the hospital. Citizen Journal is withholding the minor’s identity. The affidavit was completed by Detective M. Barnett of the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office on March 17.
Citizen Journal requested the affidavit on Tuesday. Jennifer Wyatt, county attorney for McPherson County, filed to seal the arrest affidavit Wednesday morning, saying that the release of the affidavit could prejudice potential jurors and disclose facts that could prove to be false. Judge John Klenda rejected that motion Thursday.
The incident took place on Dec 20, 2025, when McPherson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address in Inman for a seizure call for someone who had been “jumped”, according to call logs from the day and the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, the minor had confronted Andrew Ebaben, 20, because Ebaben had called the minor’s cousin a “bitch.” Witnesses said in the affidavit that although the minor threw the first punch, he was quickly overwhelmed by several people.
After being dragged outside, the affidavit contains different accounts of what happened next. A self-described security guard at the party who dragged the minor out said four people continued to attack him until he collapsed.
Hawkinson, Ebaben, Tucker Unruh, 20, and Anthony Huff, 27, were all charged with aggravated battery in connection with the assault June 9. The security guard was not charged.
In an interview with police cited in the affidavit, Unruh said that he was trying to pull the minor out of the fight to prevent Hawkinson, Ebaben, and the security guard from tearing him up.
The release of the affidavit comes as Hawkinson also faces a voluntary manslaughter charge. Hawkinson has posted bond for both charges.
Accused parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
