MCPHERSON, Kan. — Daniel T. Hawkinson, 18, who is already charged with voluntary manslaughter in the Jan. 31 death of Joshua Soden, now faces a separate charge of aggravated battery in McPherson County District Court. The McPherson County Attorney's Office charged Hawkinson with one count of aggravated battery, a level 4 person felony, alleging he knowingly caused great bodily harm to a person identified in the warrant as R.J.V. on or about Dec. 20, 2025. District Magistrate Judge Amanda Faber signed the arrest warrant June 9, and bond was set at $25,000, which records show was posted June 11 through B&K Bonding of Salina.

The alleged battery occurred about six weeks before the shooting that killed Soden but was not charged until this month. Hawkinson is scheduled to appear June 23 at 1:15 p.m. for a bond hearing in the battery case. A separate preliminary hearing in the manslaughter case is set for June 26 at 11:15 a.m. via Zoom before District Judge John Klenda. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
