The McPherson Animal Shelter announced that Mama Shrimpy and her five pups — a male named Piglet and four females named Fawn, Calf, Duckling and Bunny — are seeking forever homes after a weeks-long journey that included a feature in People magazine. A citizen journalist-led fundraiser also generated $1,155 to help cover the cost of the animals' vaccinations, spaying and neutering.
The "Walmart puppies" were discovered May 21 inside a pink bag behind a parked vehicle's tire. After officers identified the dogs' owner, Shrimpy was brought to the shelter to raise the puppies while authorities forwarded a case to prosecutors.
