McNeill's 16 kills lead Hutchinson past Dodge City in four sets

DODGE CITY — Jaylynn McNeill recorded a season-high 16 kills to lead Hutchinson Community College to a 25-18, 24-26, 26-24, 25-23 volleyball victory over Dodge City on Monday night at the DC3 Student Events Center.
The sophomore hit .464 on 28 attacks as the Blue Dragons (11-11, 3-4 KJCCC) returned to .500 and ended a four-match losing streak against the Conquistadors.
Hutchinson dominated the first set, hitting .423, but Dodge City (9-10, 3-4) rallied to take the second set 26-24 after scoring seven of the final nine points.
The Blue Dragons faced a set point at 24-23 in the third set before McNeill's kill tied it. Hutchinson scored the final three points, with Clara Oliveira delivering an ace on set point for the 26-24 victory.
Trailing 7-1 in the fourth set, the Blue Dragons battled back with .459 hitting. McNeill and Mattie Galliher combined for a double block on match point to close out the win.
Alondra Villanueva added 14 kills and 21 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Angela Reupena recorded her third double-double with 48 assists and 14 digs, while adding three service aces.
Hutchinson out-hit Dodge City 56-44 and held a 9-7 edge in blocks. Galliher led the team with six blocks.
The Blue Dragons host Butler on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Sports Arena.
