HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Public Schools has earned a Silver Star from the Kansas State Department of Education for excellence in kindergarten readiness, joining just two other districts statewide to receive the honor.

The Kansas State Board of Education and state education department recognized USD 308 through the Kansans Can Star Recognition program, which celebrates districts providing high-quality early childhood education opportunities. The program aims to ensure every Kansas child enters kindergarten at age 5 ready to learn socially, emotionally and academically.

"Early learning experiences and strong community partnerships play a vital role in preparing children for school and life," according to KSDE, which emphasizes that a child's path to success begins well before kindergarten.

The district also received Bronze Star recognition for individual plans of study, which provide students with connected learning experiences that develop academic knowledge and technical and employability skills. Additionally, USD 308 earned a Copper Star for promoting social-emotional growth and character competencies.

The Star Recognition Program uses quantitative and qualitative measures to showcase districts' achievements across Kansas' education system. Districts can earn gold, silver, bronze or copper stars in areas reflecting statewide education priorities.

The recognition highlights Hutchinson Public Schools' commitment to early childhood education and partnerships with families and the community, according to the district.
