Hutchinson Community Foundation names Steen senior program officer

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community Foundation has appointed Jan Steen as its senior program officer, the organization announced Monday, Oct. 27.

Steen will oversee the foundation's grantmaking, scholarship and Youth Philanthropy Council programs, implement strategic initiatives and work with community stakeholders.

He brings extensive community development and grant experience to the position. Most recently, Steen served as state community vitality specialist at Kansas State University Extension, where he conducted community assessments, facilitated discussions, designed curricula and administered grants.

He previously worked as county extension director and community development agent at K-State Extension-Reno County. Before joining K-State, Steen was a network engineer and managed services supervisor at Heartland Technology Solutions.

Steen has received multiple honors, including the State Meritorious Service Award-Epsilon Sigma Phi and the Outstanding State Specialist Award from Kansas State University. The Kansas Association of Community Development Extension Professionals recognized him with its Excellence in Community Development Award for Grant Support Programming. He is a Leadership Reno County alumnus.

He volunteers with the Ulster Project of Hutchinson and serves on the Arlington Community PRIDE board and the vestry at Grace Episcopal Church. He previously volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Steen holds a master's degree in community development from Kansas State University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southwestern College.

A Reno County resident for 19 years, Steen lives with his wife and three children on a farm outside Arlington.

He will begin his new position in mid-November.
