Hutchinson Community College Launches John Deere Partnership, Honors Outstanding Student, Sells Discount Cards

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College has partnered with John Deere to offer a two-year associate degree program in Agricultural Diesel Mechanics, providing students with direct employment pathways and industry-sponsored training.
The program combines classroom instruction at HutchCC's South Campus with hands-on training in the first year, followed by internships with PrairieLand Partners, LLC in the second year. Students receive real-world experience, industry-leading training and a direct pathway to employment upon completion.
The college requires students to be sponsored by PrairieLand Partners to participate in the program. The company assists students in connecting with PrairieLand Partners for sponsorship opportunities.
Students will gain state-of-the-art technical training on John Deere equipment, real-world experience through dealership internships and direct employment pathways with PrairieLand Partners upon graduation.

Student Recognition
Hutchinson Community College recently named Brandy Sheahan Harris of Hutchinson as a 2025 Distinguished Dragon. Harris is currently enrolled in the college's Associate Degree of Nursing program.
College officials described Harris as having a work ethic that "inspires others to look beyond with everything she does." She serves as a leader both within and outside the classroom and has been repeatedly named to the President's Honor Roll. Harris also serves as an officer for Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
In addition to her academic achievements, Harris dedicates time to Special Olympics and serves on her daughter's high school athletic booster club. She has spent considerable time in Topeka meeting with committees and testifying on behalf of legislation, including efforts to decriminalize fentanyl test strips and support life-saving interventions through "Good Samaritan" laws.
Harris is pursuing her nursing degree in memory of her late son.
Alumni Discount Program
The Hutchinson Community College Alumni & Friends organization is selling Blue Dragon Discount Cards for $15 each, with proceeds supporting student scholarships. The 2025-2026 discount cards are available at the college's Endowment Office in Lockman Hall, the Campus Store in the Student Union, Brown's Shoe Fit and First National Bank locations.
The discount cards provide savings at more than 60 local businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, automotive services and entertainment venues. Participating merchants offer discounts ranging from 10% to 20% off regular prices, with some providing free items or special pricing on select services.
Discount card holders can save money at establishments including local restaurants, automotive services, retail stores and recreational facilities throughout Hutchinson and surrounding areas.
