HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College cross country runners Mildred Rono and Cornelius Kogo were named Jayhawk Conference Runners of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 28, one day after capturing individual Region 6 championships in Colby.
Rono led the No. 8-ranked Blue Dragon women to their second team title in four years, while Kogo helped the No. 2-ranked Hutchinson men claim their second consecutive Region 6 team championship.
Kogo became the fourth Blue Dragon to win the Region 6 individual championship, posting a winning time of 24:17.77 in his second career race victory. He was one of three Hutchinson runners to place in the top 10 and secure the team title.

The honor marked Kogo's second Runner of the Week award this season. He previously received conference honors after winning the Terry Masterson Twilight in August.
Rono became the second consecutive Blue Dragon women's cross country runner to capture the Region 6 championship. Running in a tightly knit lead pack of five runners through three kilometers, Rono broke away with two kilometers remaining and was never challenged again.

She won the race by 45.80 seconds with a time of 17:10.69, the second-fastest Region 6 time in Blue Dragon history. The victory was Rono's third race win of her freshman season.
Rono earned Conference Runner of the Week honors for the fourth time this season.
