Hutchinson CC routs Garden City 5-0, extends unbeaten streak to eight

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Isabela Puccinelli scored three goals Oct. 22, recording the 100th all-time hat trick in Hutchinson Community College women's soccer history as the No. 19 Blue Dragons defeated Garden City 5-0 in Jayhawk Conference play.

Puccinelli, a freshman, became the 48th different Blue Dragon player to record a hat trick in the program's 21-year history. She finished with a career-high eight points on three goals and two assists against the Broncbusters at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

The victory extended Hutchinson's unbeaten streak to eight games and strengthened the Blue Dragons' hold on second place in the Jayhawk Conference at 8-2-3 with 27 points. Hutchinson can clinch second place with a win or tie against Barton on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Great Bend in the regular-season finale.

Puccinelli is the first Blue Dragon to record a hat trick since Haley Rogers on Aug. 24, 2024, against Garden City. She is the first to score eight or more points in a game since Adriana Delgado had nine against Crowder College on Sept. 2, 2023, and the first freshman with a hat trick since Hadlie Lowe on Oct. 13, 2021.

The Blue Dragons dominated from the start, scoring four first-half goals while outshooting Garden City 20-2, including 12-0 in shots on goal. It marked the third time this season and 33rd time in program history Hutchinson didn't allow a shot on goal.

Freshman Olivia Tamaki added a goal and two assists, while freshman Poppy Smith scored her 10th goal of the season.

Puccinelli opened scoring at 8:50 of the first half with a 12-yard shot from an acute angle on the left side. Smith made it 2-0 with a 22-yard shot under the crossbar with 24:06 remaining in the half.

Puccinelli's second goal came with 5:25 left in the half on a 12-yard strike after taking a Tamaki pass. Tamaki then scored off a Puccinelli assist with 3:50 to play for a 4-0 halftime lead. Puccinelli completed the hat trick with 29:24 remaining in the second half.

Evie Carvell and Rylee Loague split goalkeeping duties, combining for Hutchinson's eighth shutout of the season and 197th in program history.

The Blue Dragons improved to 11-2-3 overall and are now 34-1-1 all-time against Garden City with 25 shutouts against the Broncbusters.
