Winfield Library Receives $10,000 Gift from Carnegie Corporation

WINFIELD — The Winfield Public Library has received a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York in celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

The library announced the donation Thursday on social media, noting it is one of approximately 1,280 Carnegie Libraries still serving communities nationwide.

The Carnegie Corporation is distributing the gifts to hundreds of Carnegie Libraries across the country as part of the United States' 250th anniversary celebration. Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist, funded the construction of 2,509 libraries worldwide between 1883 and 1929, including 1,679 in the United States.

Carnegie Libraries were built with the goal of providing free access to books and education to communities across America. Many of these historic libraries continue to serve their communities more than a century after their founding.

The Winfield Public Library joins other Carnegie Libraries across Kansas and the nation in receiving the commemorative gift. Additional information about the donation can be found at carnegie.io/47kNpzh.

The library is located in Winfield, Kansas.
