Wichita Collegiate runs past Silver Lake to advance to Class 3A KSHSAA boys basketball finals

Wichita Collegiate High School Spartans boys basketball faced the Silver Lake High School Eagles in a Kansas State High School Athletic Association (KSHSAA) Class 3A state basketball semifinal at the Hutchinson Sports Arena on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The Spartans entered the Class 3A Basketball Championship as the No. 1 seed, boasting a 25-1 record. The Silver Lake Eagles were the No. 5 seed, owning a 21-6 record. Wichita Collegiate advanced to the state semifinals by defeating Wellsville High School 106-60, and Silver Lake advanced by defeating Holcomb High School 47-37.
The game started at a fast pace, as Wichita Collegiate employed a full-court pressure defense that they maintained throughout the match.
Scoring was even in the first quarter, with Silver Lake leading 11-10 at the end of the period. However, in the following quarters, the Spartans took control through their superior defensive play, concluding the first half with a 25-21 lead. They continued to extend their advantage in the third and fourth quarters, winning the game 57-43.
Wichita Collegiate dominated the defensive statistics, scoring 29 points off Silver Lake turnovers. The Spartans outrebounded the Eagles 34-29, forced 10 more turnovers and created five more steals.
For Silver Lake, senior Dayne Johnson led the scoring with 14 points, with junior Hunter Rooks adding 13 points. Eagle senior Grady Bergman contributed 12 rebounds.
The standout player of the game was Wichita Collegiate senior Sebastian Hines-Turner, who led all scorers with 22 points. Hines-Turner also recorded a team-high eight rebounds and six steals. Spartan junior Kamari Jennings added 14 points, many of them on breakaway baskets following defensive rebounds by Hines-Turner.
With the victory, Wichita Collegiate moves into the state finals on Saturday, March 14, 2026, where they will face the Burlington High School Wildcats. The game will be played at Hutchinson Sports Arena, Hutchinson, Kan., at 2:30 p.m.
