White's Foodliner will crown its two best baggers on August 27 as the family-owned Kansas grocery chain concludes its store-by-store bagging competition that has featured over 30 employees across eight locations. The semi-final competition will determine which two baggers advance to represent White's in the Retail Grocers Association of Missouri and Kansas statewide championship, with judging based on speed, bag building technique, weight distribution and style according to official RGA standards.
The winners of Tuesday's semi-finals will move on to compete in Kansas City for the state title, with the Kansas champion earning a trip to Las Vegas for the National Grocers Association Best Bagger Championship at Caesars Forum Convention Center in February. Last year's national winner took home $10,000, while the competition featuring 25+ state contestants draws hundreds of spectators and is broadcast live with professional production values rivaling a game show.
