Wellington Middle School Students Lead Career Fairs for Younger Peers

WELLINGTON, Kan. — Wellington Middle School's Career and Life Planning students organized and led two career fairs last week, one for sixth-graders and one for seventh-graders, with 15 eighth-graders stepping into leadership roles to help guide their younger peers through career-focused activities.

The eighth-grade students served as both business leads and group leaders, guiding peers through rotations and supporting presenters. Activities included career bingo, riddles, trivia and more.

The seventh-grade Career Fair featured local professionals from several organizations who volunteered their time to give students an inside look into their careers. Participating organizations included the Sumner County Sheriff's Department, Cornejo Day Funeral Home, Sumner Cowley Electric, Sumner County Health Department, Sumner County 911 and USD 353 School Psychologists.

Throughout the event, seventh-graders rotated through stations where they engaged in hands-on learning experiences, explored tools and materials used in various professions and gained a deeper understanding of day-to-day career responsibilities.

School officials said the leadership experience provided eighth-grade students with valuable networking opportunities and allowed them to represent themselves and their school in a professional setting.

"Overall, the Career Fair was a powerful learning experience that combined student leadership, community involvement and hands-on career exploration to help prepare students for their future," the school said.
