Villanueva, McNeill combine for 27 kills in Hutchinson's loss at Garden City

GARDEN CITY – Sophomore pin hitters Alondra Villanueva and Jaylynn McNeill combined for 27 kills, but Hutchinson Community College dropped a 3-1 decision to Garden City on Oct. 15 at Conestoga Arena.

The Broncbusters won 25-18, 25-23, 11-25, 25-21 to hand the Blue Dragons their eighth Jayhawk Conference loss of the season.

Villanueva led Hutchinson with 15 kills and hit .303 on 33 attacks. The sophomore recorded her 12th double-double of the season.

McNeill added 12 kills and hit .363 on 33 attacks. She also had three blocks.

Sophomore Atlyn Proctor contributed six kills, while sophomore Kierny Follmer had four kills and four blocks for the Blue Dragons.

Sophomore setter Angela Reupena distributed 39 assists and added nine digs and three ace serves.

Freshman libero Clara Oliveira led Hutchinson's defense with 22 digs and two aces. Freshman defensive specialist McKenzye Williamson added 10 digs.

The Blue Dragons hit .185 with 40 kills on 127 attacks. Hutchinson recorded nine service aces and five team blocks.

Hutchinson fell to 12-15 overall and 4-8 in the KJCCC. Garden City improved to 10-10 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

The Blue Dragons travel to face Seward County at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in Liberal.
