Varsity Track Meet Marks Field Milestone
McPherson's invitational debuts the final piece of a $1.1 million facility upgrade.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson High School varsity track and field team hosted its annual invitational April 30, competing for the first time on a newly completed all-weather javelin runway that served as the capstone of a $1,135,022 capital campaign launched in 2022 by the USD 418 board of education.
The campaign, supported by 154 donors including the Doug & Kathie Unruh Family Trust, Hedlund Electric, Midway Motors, CHS Refinery and Peoples Bank & Trust, also funded raised bleacher seating, LED field lighting, a new scoreboard, a modern press box, expanded throwing areas, dual-direction jump and pole vault runways, and a state-of-the-art sound system at USD 418 Community Field.
