Union Pacific Railroad closures to disrupt Hutchinson traffic at multiple crossings
Information obtained from City of Hutchinson-Government Facebook
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Union Pacific Railroad will close multiple railroad crossings north of Avenue D in Hutchinson over two separate weekends in April 2026, affecting traffic at several key intersections across the city.
The first closure will take the Plum Street railroad crossing out of service April 8-9. During that closure, motorists will be directed to detour via Avenue F to Chestnut Street to Avenue C.

A second, larger round of closures is scheduled for April 14-15 and will affect four crossings simultaneously — Cleveland Street, Chestnut Street, Plum Street and Maple Street, all located just north of Avenue D. Detour routes for those closures have not yet been finalized, according to the City of Hutchinson.
Each closure is expected to last approximately 24 to 36 hours. Barricades and flaggers will be in place during active work hours to direct traffic and maintain safety in the work zones.
City officials are urging motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and seek alternate routes where possible. Drivers are asked to follow all posted signage and directions from flaggers when passing through affected areas.
