Two-Vehicle Crash Sends Hutchinson Teen to Hospital in Critical Condition

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 19-year-old Hutchinson man was airlifted to a Wichita hospital in critical condition Tuesday after a two-vehicle collision resulted in a rollover crash on North Plum Street.
The Reno County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident at 3:06 p.m. in the 6100 block of North Plum Street, along with Hutchinson Fire Department, Reno County EMS and Kansas Highway Patrol.
First responders found a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette overturned in the east ditch after striking a tree. The 19-year-old driver was trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures before transporting him to a hospital in Wichita.
Investigation revealed that a second vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Charger driven by a 20-year-old man from Plevna, was also involved in the collision. The Charger's driver sustained minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Both vehicles were traveling northbound on Plum Street when the Charger attempted to overtake the Corvette, according to authorities. The vehicles collided while traveling in the same direction, causing the Corvette to leave the roadway and strike a tree.
Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the accident, officials said.
The investigation remains in preliminary stages, and the sheriff's office said no additional details will be released at this time.
