Topeka Events Calendar: From Theater to Zoo Adventures, Capital City Offers Diverse August Entertainment

TOPEKA, Kan. — The capital city is hosting a variety of entertainment options this weekend and beyond, ranging from Shakespeare productions to family-friendly activities at local museums and outdoor venues.

The Beacon will present "The Taming of the Shrew" from Thursday through Saturday, with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. Saturday. The Shakespeare production runs Aug. 15-17.

Families can enjoy multiple activities at the Kansas Children's Discovery Center throughout the week. The museum offers sensory-friendly programming on Sundays and Wednesdays, along with STEAM Play sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A Bubble Party is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m.

Music enthusiasts can catch live performances at several venues. The Brass Rail Tavern will host Tyler Gregory on Sunday from 2-5 p.m., while Evergy Plaza features the "Eats & Beats" series Thursday at 6 p.m. with Delta Haze performing.

The Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center continues its "Dinosaurs Alive!" exhibit daily through Aug. 31, starting at 9 a.m. The zoo will also host World Orangutan Day activities Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and "Stay Late, Roam Wild" sessions on Wednesdays until 8 p.m. through Aug. 27.

Comedy fans can attend several shows, including "Laugh Lines Improv Comedy" Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Topeka Civic Theatre and Academy, and "Friday Night Funnies" featuring live stand-up comedy at Cosmos Court.

The Mulvane Art Museum will host art lab sessions on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Saturday sessions run from noon to 4 p.m., while Tuesday sessions begin at 4 p.m.

For those interested in equestrian events, the R.R. Domer Livestock Arena will host a 4H Open Horse Show on Friday, with barrel racing events scheduled through September.
