Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab received commendation from President Donald Trump for making Kansas among the first states to utilize a federal database confirming U.S. citizenship of registered voters. Schwab, a Republican candidate for governor in 2026, serves as Kansas' top election official. In March, Trump signed an executive order making the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements program available to states at no cost. In an Oct. 8 letter shared publicly by Schwab, Trump wrote that safeguarding elections "requires our partnership to be based on mutual trust and a shared commitment to our constitutional responsibilities."

THC-Infused Drinks Escape Kansas Lawmakers' Scrutiny Despite Marijuana Ban
While Kansas remains among the last states without legalized marijuana, THC-infused beverages have avoided regulatory oversight as they're classified as hemp products under the 2018 federal Farm Bill. Kansas Bureau of Investigation executive officer Robert Stuart told a joint legislative security committee Thursday that while marijuana is illegal in Kansas, Delta 9 THC drinks containing no more than 0.3% THC by weight are federally permitted, though he recommended lawmakers outlaw them, stating "if it's intoxicating, it's damaging."

KC Current Owners Push Forward on $1 Billion Riverfront Transformation
Chris and Angie Long, owners of the KC Current women's professional soccer team, are advancing their ambitious 10-year, $1 billion plan to remake Kansas City's riverfront with construction well underway on phase one. The Mission Hills couple's initial development includes 433 apartments and 55,000 square feet of commercial space rising seven stories near CPKC Stadium, scheduled for completion by the June 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cold Front Bringing Rain, Wind and Frost to Kansas This Week
Kansans should prepare for gloomy weather as a cold front races across the state bringing rain, wind and cooler temperatures through Tuesday. Areas of fog and drizzle Monday morning will give way to cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s, with rainfall beginning in the northwest this evening and reaching Wichita after midnight, totaling up to half an inch before ending midday Tuesday. Strong northwest winds gusting over 40 mph are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with widespread frost possible Thursday or Friday morning. Halloween will bring cool but quiet conditions with trick-or-treat temperatures in the 50s, while the first weekend of November looks warmer with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 60s by Sunday.

K-State Extends Sunflower Showdown Winning Streak to 17 with Rout of Kansas
Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson accounted for four touchdowns as the Wildcats dominated Kansas 42-17 Saturday in Lawrence, extending their winning streak over their in-state rival to 17 consecutive games. Johnson threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for two more scores, with wide receiver Jayce Brown adding four catches for 160 yards including a 78-yard touchdown that coach Chris Klieman called "the dagger," as Kansas State improved to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 play while maintaining the longest active winning streak by one team over another in college football.
