Information obtained from Hutchinson Police Department
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Police Department recognized three community members for their quick action during a roadside emergency at its annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony, honoring employees and citizens for their achievements throughout 2025.
Kaydence McCreary, Xavier Delgado and Christian Janzen were among those recognized after intervening in a March 25, 2025, incident involving an unconscious driver stopped in the roadway at the intersection of 17th Avenue and Plum Street.

Officers responding to the scene found the three citizens already working to prevent the unoccupied vehicle from rolling forward and attempting to reach the driver. Authorities said the trio acted before police arrived, placing themselves at personal risk to stabilize the situation and assist the driver.
Officers, along with Hutchinson Fire Department personnel and Reno County EMS, rendered aid to the driver upon arrival. The individual was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, where he was expected to make a full recovery.
The department credited the actions of McCreary, Delgado and Janzen with preventing the situation from escalating and reducing the potential for further harm.

The department also recognized McCreary on her selection as the 2025 National American Miss Kansas.
