The McPherson Chamber of Commerce Civic Awareness Committee to Host School Board Candidate Forum Oct. 16
Four candidates vying for three open positions will field questions at education-focused community event

The McPherson Chamber of Commerce Civic Awareness Committee will host a School Board Candidate Forum on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. at The Cedars Event Center, giving voters a chance to hear directly from candidates seeking three open school board positions.
The forum, located at 1019 Cedars Drive, will also be livestreamed on the Chamber's Facebook page for community members unable to attend in person. All four candidates who filed for the open positions—Blane Janssen, Lara Vanderhoof, Perry McCabe, and Sherrie Sparks—have been invited to participate.
The evening will begin with brief opening statements from each candidate, allowing them to highlight their motivations and qualifications for school board service. The event will then transition to a moderated question-and-answer format designed to give voters insight into each candidate's educational priorities and vision.
Audience members may submit questions upon arrival, though all inquiries will be screened for clarity and relevance to ensure they apply to all candidates. Each candidate will have one minute to respond to questions. Questions will not be accepted through the Facebook livestream.
Following the school board forum, Jim Loving, candidate for Mayor of McPherson, will deliver a brief address sharing his vision, qualifications, and motivations behind his candidacy. The presentation will offer attendees additional insight into mayoral race priorities and the candidate's experience relevant to community leadership.
Community members seeking information about voter registration, advance voting options, and polling locations can visit the McPherson County website at mcphersoncountyks.us. The forum represents an opportunity for voters to engage with local candidates before heading to the polls.
