Temporary Traffic Lights Installed at Main Street Intersections for State Fair

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Public Works has completed installation of temporary traffic lights on Main Street at the intersections of 20th Avenue and 23rd Avenue in preparation for the Kansas State Fair.

The lights are currently configured as four-way stops but will begin operating as full traffic signals a few days before the fair opens Sept. 5, according to the Hutchinson Police Department.

The temporary installations are designed to manage increased traffic flow during the fair, which runs through Sept. 14. The intersections typically experience heavy congestion as visitors travel to and from the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

Police officials are advising drivers to exercise extra caution while traveling in the area as motorists adjust to the new traffic control devices.

The temporary lights will remain in place throughout the duration of the fair to help facilitate smoother traffic movement during peak attendance periods.

Additional traffic management measures may be implemented as needed during the 10-day event, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to Hutchinson annually.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes when possible during fair dates to avoid congestion in the Main Street corridor.
