Teen arrested after threat prompts lockdown at Hutchinson schools

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 17-year-old Hutchinson male was arrested following an alleged threat on Sept. 30 against Hutchinson High School. This prompted lockdowns at three area schools, police said.

The Hutchinson Police Department received a call from an unknown individual regarding a threat directed at the high school. Officers immediately placed Hutchinson High School, Graber Elementary at 1600 North Cleveland Street, and Transitional Learning Center at 700 East 13th Ave. under lockdown to ensure student and staff safety.

Police identified and interviewed a suspect during their investigation. Kayleb Lozoya was taken into custody and transported to Reno County Juvenile Detention Center, where he faces three counts of aggravated criminal threat, two counts of interference with law enforcement, unlawful request for emergency services and criminal false communication.

The interference charges include making a false report and concealing or destroying evidence, according to police.

Authorities said the investigation was extensive and took time due to the complexity of gathering and analyzing evidence from multiple sources, including applying for and executing search warrants on digital media.
