Tamaki's overtime goal lifts No. 19 Hutchinson past Dodge City 1-0 in Region 6 opener

HUTCHINSON – Freshman Olivia Tamaki scored 6 minutes, 15 seconds into overtime to give No. 19 Hutchinson Community College a 1-0 victory over Dodge City in the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons (12-2-4) advanced to Wednesday's semifinals, where they will face Butler. Game time will be announced Monday.

Tamaki's game-winner came after Blue Dragon midfielder Beatrice Sales intercepted a Dodge City clearing attempt. As Sales moved forward, the Conquistadors deflected her pass toward the right sideline, where it found Tamaki.

The freshman drove 15 yards to her right past a defender and launched a screened shot from about 25 yards out that sailed over goalkeeper Lucy Goss for the unassisted goal. It was Tamaki's ninth goal of the season and second game-winner in 2025.

For the second consecutive meeting, Dodge City packed all 11 players behind the ball to limit Blue Dragon scoring opportunities. Hutchinson attempted 30 shots in regulation with 13 on goal, but Goss made 13 saves to force overtime.

The Blue Dragons outshot Dodge City 33-3 overall, including 14-1 in shots on goal. Hutchinson goalkeeper Evie Carvell (9-2-4) made one save in the first half.

This marked the second straight year Hutchinson defeated Dodge City 1-0 in overtime in the Region 6 Tournament opener. Last season's victory came in double overtime.

The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak over the Conquistadors to 34 games and improved to 35-1 all-time in the series. Hutchinson is 3-0 against Dodge City in Region 6 Tournament play and 16-5 in quarterfinal matches.
