A duplex built by Hutchinson career and technical education students on a vacant, city-donated lot along East Avenue A is now for sale, listed at $249,900 per unit.

The full duplex is listed at $499,800, according to a Facebook post the City of Hutchinson published Monday, Oct. 19.

The city's Land Bank donated the property to a partnership between Hutchinson Community College and USD 308's Hutchinson Career and Technical Education Academy, or HCTEA. A $708,965 FRAME grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce helped fund the work, and the city said the project gave students real-world construction experience while adding housing.

Each unit has approximately 1,735 square feet, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, walk-in closets and a walk-in pantry. The duplex has a two-car detached garage.

According to the city, students designed the homes to fit the established, historic neighborhood, with front porches and garages placed behind the homes.

The city said in the post, "For the City, this is exactly the kind of opportunity we love to see. Our Land Bank helps put properties back into productive use, and partnerships like this demonstrate how those properties can become something truly valuable for our community,"

People interested in the homes can call Hutchinson Community College at 620-665-3550.
