HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Sons of the Plains Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will host a special joint meeting with the Uvedale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Saturday, April 18, at 10 a.m. at the Reno County Museum.

The annual joint session will open with a Color Guard presentation of the flags, followed by an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. A highlight of the morning's agenda will be the presentation of an EMT Certification Award to Avery Hoy.

The meeting is open to members and guests in an informal setting.

The gathering takes on added significance as the nation prepares to mark a historic milestone. On July 4, 2026, the country will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence — an occasion known as the Semiquincentennial. America250, the national nonpartisan organization charged by Congress, aims to inspire Americans to reflect on the nation's past, strengthen love of country, and renew commitment to the ideals of democracy through programs that educate, engage, and unite.

The Sons of the Plains Chapter plans to participate in the anniversary year through community events, including upcoming parade appearances at the Abbyville Rodeo and the July 4 parade in Hutchinson.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is also preparing to celebrate the milestone at both local and national levels, with chapters planning events and projects in advance of the July 2026 anniversary.

The Sons of the Plains Chapter is affiliated with the Kansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the national Sons of the American Revolution organization. According to the chapter, the Sons of the American Revolution honors Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving communities, and educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of the country.
