Board approves funding for Auburn KTA interchange study

SHAWNEE COUNTY, Kan. - The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an $820,000 contract Tuesday with Benesch for a regional transportation study regarding a new Kansas Turnpike Authority interchange near Auburn. Shawnee County Public Works Director Curt Niehaus noted that while the overall contract increased by $70,000 to include a tie-in with U.S. Highway 75 at the Kansas Department of Transportation's request, the state agency also increased its funding share from 35 percent to 40 percent. The county's portion will be paid from the special road improvement fund, costing Shawnee County an additional $4,500 to secure the expanded study scope, which commissioners agreed will be beneficial for future grant applications.

SHAWNEE COUNTY, Kan. - Shawnee County Treasurer Susan Duffy announced that her office mailed more than 7,000 delinquent tax notices this week. The mailings include 6,918 notices for real estate and 148 for personal property. According to preliminary figures discussed at the meeting, Duffy reportedly stated that approximately $11.6 million in local taxes remains uncollected for the current year, though she expects that figure to drop significantly as residents receive their notices and submit payments.
