Salvation Army opens warming station in Hutchinson to provide cold weather relief

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army of Reno County has opened a warming station at 700 N. Walnut to provide shelter during cold weather, the organization announced Friday.

The facility will operate Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hot chocolate and coffee will be available daily.

"Scripture directs us to do more than wishing someone to be warm and well fed, it asks us to do something about it when we are able to do so," said Major Paul James in the announcement.

The organization advised residents not to venture out in dangerous weather conditions unless absolutely necessary.

The Salvation Army is seeking donations to reach its $300,000 goal, with $61,697 remaining as of Friday.
