Salthawks claim first win, edge Campus 45-41

HUTCHINSON, Kan.— The Campus High School Colts from Wichita visited the Salthawk Activity Center on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, for a boys basketball game against the Hutchinson High School Salthawks.
The Campus Colts entered the contest with a 1-4 record, while the Hutchinson Salthawks were still looking for their first victory of the season.
The match turned out to be a physical and low-scoring affair. In the first quarter, the Colts took an early lead at 8-4 at the four-minute mark. However, the Salthawks responded with a six-point run to end the quarter, leading 10-8. Hutchinson maintained its momentum into the second quarter, going into halftime with a 12-point advantage of 27-15.
Campus was the stronger squad through the third quarter, cutting the lead to five points, 34-29. Hutchinson continued to struggle finishing at the basket, and the Colts took a one-point lead with a little more than four minutes remaining in the game.
The remaining time was highly contested, as the Salthawks regained the lead and held on for a 45-41 victory.
Hutchinson Salthawks boys recorded their first win with the victory over Campus. Hutchinson has an away game versus Arkansas City before the Christmas break. Its next home match will be Jan. 6, 2026, hosting the Maize South Mavericks at the Salthawk Activity Center.
