Riley County Police Make Arrests in Recent Vehicle Burglary Cases

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Riley County Police Department announced Monday it has made two arrests following a lengthy investigation into multiple vehicle burglaries that occurred over the past two months in the Manhattan area.
Jesup McClelland, 25, of Manhattan, was arrested Sept. 23 at approximately 3:27 p.m. in the 1100 block of Freemont Avenue on three counts of criminal use of a financial card. He was issued a total bond of $12,000 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail.
Adyson Westgate, 19, of Wamego, was arrested Sept. 22 at approximately 12:42 p.m. in the 1800 block of Hayes Drive on two counts of criminal use of a financial card and one count of burglary to a vehicle. Westgate was issued a total bond of $10,000 and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail.
Police said the arrests are connected to burglaries that occurred in the Manhattan area during the summer months. Officers executed an operation this week that led to both arrests.
The department thanked the community for sharing camera footage that assisted in the ongoing investigation and encouraged anyone who may have been a victim of vehicle burglaries and has not yet reported it to contact them at (785) 537-2112.
Recent Activity Summary
According to daily reports released by the department, officers issued dozens of citations between Sept. 17-24 for various traffic and municipal violations. The most common citations were for speeding violations, followed by expired or illegible vehicle tags, failure to provide proof of motor vehicle liability insurance, and failure to yield right of way.
Several minors were cited at El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant on Stagg Hill Road on Sept. 18 for attempting to obtain alcohol and unlawful use of license.
The department also reported multiple arrests during the same period, including charges for domestic battery, driving under the influence, failure to appear on warrants, and drug-related offenses. Bond amounts for arrests ranged from $500 to $250,000 depending on the charges.
Police noted that some names, addresses and case details are withheld in reports to protect community members from being victimized further and to follow local, state and federal laws.
