HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County is participating in Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide initiative encouraging residents and businesses to illuminate buildings with green lights to show support for military veterans and their families.

The county announced its participation on social media Sunday, stating the courthouse will be lit green through Nov. 11, 2025, in observance of Veterans Day.

"Now more than ever, our veterans need our support," the county's announcement stated. "In a time when our country is divided on so many issues, we can all agree that those individuals who risked everything to protect our country and our way of life deserve our support and gratitude."

Operation Green Light asks community members to change one light bulb in the entryway of their home or business to a green bulb as a visible symbol of appreciation for veterans. The initiative aims to raise awareness that approximately 250,000 service members transition out of the armed forces each year.

The Reno County courthouse, located at 206 W. 1st Ave. in Hutchinson, will display green lighting as part of the observance.

Local veterans are honored at the Reno County Veterans Memorial at 209 Des Moines Ave. in South Hutchinson. The memorial features the names of veterans from Reno County and those who called the county home.
