Reno County EMS Staff Participate in Inaugural Kansas Women's First Responders Symposium

HUTCHINSON — Several Reno County Emergency Medical Services personnel made history this week by attending the first-ever Kansas Women's First Responders Symposium, marking a significant milestone for female representation in emergency services.

The groundbreaking event brought together women from across first responder fields to share expertise and establish pathways for future generations entering emergency services careers.

Reno County EMS Deputy Chief Monika Heller played a dual role in the historic symposium, serving both as an attendee and as an expert panelist who helped organize the inaugural event.

"We witnessed first hand just how many amazing women there are in all of the first responder fields, paving the way for future generations," Reno County EMS officials said in announcing their participation.

The symposium represents a major step forward in ensuring diverse representation within Kansas emergency services, with participants sharing knowledge and building networks that will benefit both current and aspiring first responders.

"We are exceptionally proud of Deputy Chief Monika Heller for being one of those women — not only did she help with planning this event, but she also shared her knowledge on the expert panel," the agency said.

The event's organizers emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for women in first responder roles, with the symposium serving as both a celebration of current achievements and a platform for future advancement.

"Together, we're making sure everyone has a seat at the table," officials said, describing the symposium's mission to expand opportunities in emergency services.
