Puccinelli, Sales lead Hutchinson to 4-0 shutout of Coffeyville

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Freshman Isabela Puccinelli and sophomore Beatrice Sales each recorded three points Wednesday to power Hutchinson Community College to a 4-0 Jayhawk Conference victory over Coffeyville at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
The Blue Dragons (7-2-2, 4-2-2 KJCCC) posted their fifth shutout of the season and completed a regular-season sweep of the Red Ravens (2-11-1, 1-8 KJCCC).
Puccinelli scored a goal and added an assist on the game-winning goal, extending her scoring streak to five consecutive games. Sales notched a career-high three points with a goal and an assist.
Hutchinson dominated possession and outshot Coffeyville 40-5, including 20-4 in shots on goal. The Blue Dragons also held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blue Dragons jumped ahead 2-0 just 9:02 into the match. Poppy Smith scored the game-winner 3:07 into the contest, taking a long pass from Puccinelli and striking a high shot over Red Ravens goalkeeper Macy Lemke for her third game-winning goal of the season.
Sales made it 2-0 six minutes later, blasting home a rebound after Lemke saved her initial shot following an Ava McAninch corner kick.
Puccinelli extended the lead to 3-0 in the 69th minute when her hard shot from an acute angle deflected off a Coffeyville defender into the goal. Bessie Simpson was credited with the assist.
Olivia Tamaki capped the scoring with 16:54 remaining, firing a shot from 22 yards out with an assist from Sales.
Freshman goalkeeper Rylee Loague (3-0) recorded her third shutout of the season with a season-high four saves.
The 40 shots marked a season high and the first time Hutchinson reached that total since taking 46 shots against Hesston College on Sept. 14, 2019. The Blue Dragons improved to 21-5 all-time against Coffeyville and have won seven straight in the series.
Hutchinson will complete a suspended game against Dodge City at 6 p.m. Friday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. The Blue Dragons led that contest 3-1 with 10:19 remaining in the first half when play was halted.
