Pedestrian walkway opens on Hayes Drive amid road closure
Police warn motorists against cutting across private lawns to bypass construction
MANHATTAN, Kan. — A temporary pedestrian walkway is now open on Hayes Drive north of Levee Drive, but the roadway will remain closed to vehicles for another three to four weeks for construction coordinated with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The city has notified the Riley County Police Department after receiving reports of motorists illegally cutting across private property to bypass the barricades. Drivers are urged to expect delays and use the official detour along U.S. 24, Casement Road and McCall Road until work is complete.
