Hutchinson YMCA Expands Programming for Fall and Winter Seasons

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson YMCA is gearing up for an active fall and winter season with expanded programming designed to serve families throughout Reno County.

Located at 716 E. 13th Ave., the facility operates Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.

Youth Programs Take Center Stage

The YMCA offers comprehensive youth programming across multiple disciplines. Gymnastics offers many hours of fun, fitness, flexibility, coordination, strength, agility and balance with 28 recreational classes offered every six weeks year-round. The program also features a competitive team that trains annually, with tryouts held in May.

Youth sports programming includes football, baseball, T-ball and basketball leagues. Y sports nurture the potential of your kids by emphasizing fun, skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork in a positive environment.

For middle school students, the facility offers Saturday night programming where youth can play basketball, work out and swim in a supervised environment after normal business hours.

Aquatics and Fitness Programs

The YMCA provides swimming instruction from infants through active older adults with classes designed to build comfort and confidence in the water. The facility features both indoor lap and family pools.

Martial arts programming includes karate and taekwondo classes aimed at improving self-confidence, self-control, concentration and overall health through self-defense techniques.

Holiday Health Challenge

The Hutchinson YMCA has some great programs for you to get a jump on fitness as we head into the holiday season with their "Healthy Through the Holidays" member challenge running from Nov. 28 through Jan. 1.

Participants can choose between maintaining or losing weight or attending 12 group exercise classes during the challenge period. If you've maintained or lost weight, you will get a t-shirt, according to facility staff.

Membership and Future Plans

We're still hovering right at 5,000 total members at our location here in Hutch, said David Foster with the Hutchinson YMCA. The facility waived joining fees through Nov. 26, removing the typical $50 fee for adult and family memberships and $25 for youth memberships.

The organization is also looking toward expansion. Community leaders gathered in Hutchinson Thursday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new YMCA in December 2024. The planned Hutchinson YMCA will include a first-class destination aquatics center, indoor track, gymnasium, expanded gymnastics center, fitness center with studios, community room, additional places for families to connect and programs that provide safe spaces for youth along with a planned child care center.

The new 75,000-square-foot facility will be located at 20th Street and Lorraine, with land donated by Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System.

Group Exercise and Personal Training

Greater Wichita YMCA locations offer a variety of classes, included in your membership, for having fun and getting healthy. Group exercise classes are included with your YMCA membership. The Y has over 60 types of group exercise and water exercise classes to choose from.

The facility also offers both land and water-based personal training with certified instructors who provide personalized service and accountability for members seeking individualized fitness guidance.
