Over Half of Vehicles Clocked Speeding on N. Summit Street During Two-Week Enforcement Period
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — More than half of southbound vehicles recorded by a speed trailer in the 1100 block of N. Summit Street were traveling over 30 mph during a two-week monitoring period, the Arkansas City Police Department reported.
Of 22,038 vehicles clocked traveling southbound from April 9-16, 56.63% were exceeding the posted speed limit. The biggest spikes in speed occurred around 11 a.m. and again between 3 and 4 p.m., coinciding with school dismissal and increased traffic volume.
In response, officers will increase enforcement presence along the Summit Street corridor from Chestnut to Radio Lane. All traffic laws will be enforced.
"Slow down and obey posted speed limits — especially during those high-traffic times," the department said. "We know you've got places to be, but we'd prefer you get there without a citation, or worse."
