McPHERSON —Progress continues on Phase II of the Northview Avenue 10-foot sidewalk project as contractors take advantage of favorable fall weather conditions.

Crews have begun pouring the 10-foot path on the north side of the road while simultaneously installing drain pipe on the south side. The recent stretch of pleasant weather has allowed work to advance steadily on the multi-phase project.

Phase II, which extends from Main Street, will complete a continuous walking connection that began with Phase I. The first phase connected the Meadowlark Trail and U.S. 81 bypass to just past Veranda Circle, creating a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project is funded primarily through grant funds awarded by the Kansas Department of Transportation's Transportation Alternatives program, which supports community projects that expand transportation choices and enhance the walking and cycling experience.

Once completed, the expanded sidewalk system will provide residents with improved pedestrian infrastructure and safer access to recreational trails and neighborhoods along the Northview Avenue corridor.
