No. 8 Butler rallies past No. 18 Hutchinson 56-52 on Mayberry's 35 points

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Mya Mayberry scored a game-high 35 points, including 16 in the third quarter, to lead No. 8 Butler to a 56-52 victory over No. 18 Hutchinson Community College on Monday night, Jan. 26, at Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Hutchinson (15-5, 10-4 Jayhawk Conference) had a chance to win on its final possession but committed a turnover with 13 seconds remaining. Butler (19-1, 13-1 KJCCC) hit two free throws to seal the win and complete its first regular-season series sweep of the Blue Dragons since 2007.
The Blue Dragons led 18-12 after the first quarter and 29-26 at halftime before Butler took control in the third quarter. The Grizzlies outscored Hutchinson 22-13 in the period to take a 48-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Both teams struggled offensively in the fourth quarter. Hutchinson shot 3 of 13 and Butler was 2 of 11. The Blue Dragons cut the deficit to one point twice at 48-47 and 51-50 but couldn't take the lead.
Noelle Anthon, Whitney Brown and Delora Precop each scored 11 points to lead Hutchinson. Precop tied a career high with three 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds. KaMyra Barber added eight points.
Hutchinson shot 35.1 percent (20 of 57), including 8 of 25 from 3-point range and 4 of 8 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons out-rebounded Butler 39-29 but committed 18 turnovers.
Butler shot 35.8 percent (19 of 53), going 9 of 21 from 3-point range and 9 of 13 from the foul line. Mayberry was 12 of 17 shooting and hit 8 of 11 3-pointers.
Hutchinson will host Independence at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.28, at the Sports Arena.
