No. 25 Butler hits 17 3-pointers in 102-73 rout of Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Butler made 17 3-pointers and outscored Hutchinson 51-37 in the second half to defeat the Blue Dragons 102-73 on Monday night, Jan. 26, at Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The loss was Hutchinson's fourth consecutive defeat and dropped the Blue Dragons to 10-10 overall and 5-9 in the Jayhawk Conference. Butler improved to 14-6 and 10-4 in league play. The teams split their 2026 season series.
Hutchinson played without leading scorer Kyrell Shaw, who missed the game with an injury. Butler set season highs against the Blue Dragons for both points and 3-pointers allowed.
The game was tied 20-20 with 7:53 remaining in the first half before Butler took control with a 20-6 run. The Grizzlies extended their advantage to 31-18 over the final 7:53 of the half and led 51-36 at halftime.
Ten different Butler players made at least one 3-pointer as the Grizzlies shot 17 of 48 from beyond the arc. Butler outscored Hutchinson 24-4 in second-chance points despite the Blue Dragons holding a 43-40 rebounding advantage.
Hutchinson pulled within eight points with 15:28 remaining in the second half but got no closer.
Daleron Thomas led Hutchinson with a season-high 22 points on 6 of 12 shooting. He made two 3-pointers and was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Thomas also tied a season high with six rebounds and posted a career-high seven assists.
Bobby Cannon had 19 points and seven rebounds for the Blue Dragons. Anthony Alston added 13 points and four assists.
Hutchinson shot 44.6 percent (26 of 58), including 5 of 19 from 3-point range and 16 of 25 from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons committed a season-high 27 turnovers.
Butler shot 44.0 percent (40 of 91) and had nine turnovers. The Grizzlies had a 29-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
Devin Kerr, Aiven Riley and Tim Walker each scored 14 points to lead Butler. Tristan Hankins added 13 points.
Hutchinson will host Independence at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Sports Arena.
