No. 19 Hutchinson women roll past Barton 65-42

GREAT BEND – Whitney Brown scored 16 points and Kaia Smith posted her first career double-double as No. 19 Hutchinson Community College defeated Barton 65-42 on Wednesday night, Dec. 3, at Fleske Fieldhouse.
The Blue Dragons (9-2, 4-1 KJCCC) extended their winning streak over the Cougars to six games, scoring the first seven points and never trailing. Barton fell to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Brown hit 6 of 11 shots, including two 3-pointers, and added seven assists, four steals and three rebounds. Smith contributed 10 points and a season-high 10 rebounds while tying a season high with two 3-pointers.
Noelle Anthon added nine points for Hutchinson, while Jamya McPherson, KaMyra Barber and Delora Pricop each scored eight.
The Blue Dragons shot 42.4% from the field and tied a season high with 11 3-pointers on 27 attempts. Hutchinson held its third consecutive opponent and fourth in the last five games to fewer than 50 points.
Barton shot just 27.1% overall and committed 21 turnovers. Regina Donanu led the Cougars with 12 points, while Kodi Greer had nine and Mary Akinde added eight.
Hutchinson led 20-10 after the first quarter and extended its advantage to 38-19 at halftime. The Blue Dragons opened the third quarter with a 13-5 run to build a 51-25 lead and took their largest advantage at 65-38 on a Pricop jumper with 2:32 remaining.
Hutchinson will host Cowley at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Sports Arena.
