No. 19 Hutchinson routs Cowley 74-53 for 4th straight win

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Sophomore Katie Duncan scored 15 points and four Blue Dragons reached double figures as No. 19 Hutchinson Community College defeated Cowley 74-53 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action Saturday, Dec. 7.
After a 15-15 tie following the first quarter, Hutchinson (10-2, 5-1 KJCCC) outscored the Tigers 59-38 over the final three periods to secure its fourth consecutive victory.
Duncan led the balanced attack, connecting on three 3-pointers and adding four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jamya McPherson posted a season-high 13 points off the bench, while freshmen Whitney Brown and KaMyra Barber each contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively. Barber tied a season high with six assists.
The Blue Dragons seized control with a 12-0 run early in the third quarter. Brown's 3-pointer sparked the surge, Barber added five straight points and Duncan closed it with five free throws to build a 47-33 advantage with 4:24 remaining in the period.
Hutchinson extended the lead to 25 points in the fourth quarter before cruising to the finish.
The Blue Dragons shot 45.2% from the field (28 of 62) and dominated the boards 42-29. Kaia Smith grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as Hutchinson committed just seven turnovers.
Amina Allen paced Cowley (6-5, 2-3) with 14 points, and Megan Simon added 13. The Tigers shot 32.3% (20 of 62) and went 4 of 21 from 3-point range.
Hutchinson travels to face No. 1 Dodge City on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
