No. 13 Hutchinson Women's Soccer Defeats Seward County

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Freshman forward Isabell Van Fleet scored twice and recorded a season-high five points to lead No. 13-ranked Hutchinson Community College to a 5-2 Jayhawk Conference victory over Seward County on Saturday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.

The Blue Dragons improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference behind a dominant performance that included a 24-3 shot advantage and three first-half goals.

Van Fleet paced Hutchinson with two goals and an assist. Poppy Smith, Maria Azevedo and Bessie Simpson also found the net for the Blue Dragons, with Smith adding an assist for a three-point game.

Simpson opened the scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from Isabela Puccinelli. After Seward County tied the match 1:23 later, Hutchinson responded with consecutive goals from Van Fleet and Azevedo to take a 3-1 halftime lead.

Smith scored early in the second half, then assisted on Van Fleet's second goal in the 85th minute to cap the scoring.

Ava McAninch and Olivia Tamaki also recorded assists for Hutchinson, which held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeepers Evie Carvell and Rylee Loague split time in net, with each allowing one goal. Carvell made one save.

The victory improved Hutchinson's all-time record against Seward County to 4-0-1.

The Blue Dragons will face another conference test Wednesday at Butler Community College in El Dorado.
