Moundridge Volleyball Sweeps Belle Plaine Tournament with Five-Match Victory
Wildcats showcase offensive firepower and defensive adjustments in dominant Saturday performance
The Moundridge girls volleyball team captured the Belle Plaine Tournament championship on Saturday, posting an impressive five-match sweep over Chaparral, Mulvane, Smoky Valley, Belle Plaine, and Central Christian Academy. The Wildcats' offensive attack proved unstoppable throughout the tournament, led by junior Hattie Hecox's dominant performance of 56 kills with a remarkable .411 hitting percentage. Senior Cammi Unruh added 40 kills at a .374 clip, while Macy Kaminkow contributed 17 kills, helping Moundridge overwhelm opponents with their multi-dimensional attack.
The Wildcats' success extended beyond their hitting prowess, as setter Halle Hecox orchestrated the offense with 64 assists while the defensive front controlled the net with Aspyn Stos recording 11 blocks. Head coach Bryan Otte noted the team's growth in a critical area that had plagued them earlier in the season. "We appear to finally have reached a point where we can make adjustments during matches," Otte said. "This has been a problem for us previously. I'm not saying we're good at it, but we made some positive strides on Saturday. It was a good day." With contributions across the board, including Harper Rierson's 28 assists and both Hattie Hecox and Stos serving four aces each, Moundridge demonstrated the balanced attack and improving adaptability that could make them a dangerous postseason contender.
