Moran Visits Goodland Weather Office, Announces Fort Hays Tech NW Lab Funding

GOODLAND, Kan. — Sen. Jerry Moran visited the National Weather Service office in Goodland on Friday to meet with staff and discuss expanded regional services, including coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation on highway dust forecasts and improved agricultural forecasts for seasonal products. Moran said he helped secure an exemption from the federal hiring freeze last year to allow NWS to hire meteorologists and maintain 24/7 weather monitoring. Meteorologist-in-Charge Jeremy Martin led the visit.

Later Friday, Moran announced federal funding for the renovation of Fort Hays Tech Northwest's rural advanced manufacturing innovation lab. The lab is designed to prepare students for manufacturing careers across Kansas. Fort Hays Tech NW President Dr. Corey Isbell hosted the event. Fort Hays State University President Dr. Tisa Mason, Fort Hays Tech North Central President Eric Burks, Goodland City Manager Kent Brown, Sherman County Sheriff Chad Mann and Goodland Regional Medical Center CEO Lucretia Stargell attended.
