Mi Tierra Restaurant & Cantina closes after 2 years in Aggieville

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Mi Tierra Restaurant & Cantina, a family-owned Mexican restaurant in Aggieville, has closed after two years of serving the Manhattan community.

The veteran-owned business announced the closure in a Facebook post, citing rising costs, increasing taxes and challenges with insurance as factors that made it difficult to continue operations.

"When we announced that we'd be staying open, it came from a place of deep hope," the restaurant's owners wrote in the announcement. "Hope that with your love and support, we could keep this dream alive a little longer."

The restaurant, located at 702 N. 11th St., operated Tuesday through Sunday, serving traditional Mexican cuisine including fajitas, enchiladas, tacos and specialty dishes. The business was closed Mondays.

Owned by a multicultural family with military ties, Mi Tierra described itself as more than just a restaurant, calling it "our home, a place filled with laughter, celebration, and countless memories shared with the people who became like family to us."

The owners thanked customers, staff and supporters in their farewell message, acknowledging the role each played in the restaurant's journey.

"To our amazing guests and supporters: thank you. Thank you for every visit, every kind word, every shared meal, every bit of encouragement along the way," the post stated. "And to our hardworking team (past and present) you are the heart of Mi Tierra."

The restaurant emphasized the closure marks the end of one chapter while expressing gratitude for the community's support.

"While our doors are now closed, the memories, friendships, and love shared within these walls will always stay with us," the owners wrote. "This may be the end of one chapter, but it's not goodbye. It's simply a heartfelt thank you for being part of our story and for allowing us to be part of yours."
