MHS Girls Golf Shatters School Record, Claims Buhler Invitational Title
Bullpups fire historic 303 to win 17-team tournament; Buschbom, Kuhn lead individual charge
HESSTON – The McPherson High School girls golf team made history once again, shattering their week-old school record with a stunning 303 to capture first place at the Buhler Invitational at Hesston Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Bullpups' latest record-breaking performance topped their previous best of 313, set just last week at their home invitational, and proved decisive in a competitive 17-team field. Wellington finished a distant second with a 319, followed by host Buhler in third at 322.
Senior leaders Andi Buschbom and Brodie Kuhn paced the championship effort with exceptional individual performances. Buschbom fired a personal-record 68, one stroke under par, to claim second place individually. Fellow senior Kuhn wasn't far behind, carding a 1-over-par 70 for third place – marking her fifth top-five finish in five events this season.
"Both of these seniors are playing some excellent golf right now," said head coach. "Brodie has been in the top 5 in all of her events this season, which shows incredible consistency."
The record-setting round featured four personal bests, highlighting the team's continued improvement. Junior Pera Bauer contributed significantly with a career-best 81 for a tie for 12th place, while freshman Lleyton Kuhn turned in another solid performance with an 84 to finish 21st.
"Pera's progress has been massive for our team this season," the coach noted. "And Lleyton continues to amaze me with her poise and grit."
Junior Amelia Moody and senior Leah Cahoone both achieved personal records as well, each carding 93s to tie for 41st place. Their improvement reflects the hard work and dedication that has driven the team's historic success.
