McPherson Volleyball Captures Chanute Tournament Championship
Romero leads offensive surge with 54 kills as Bullpups go 5-0 in pool play and bracket
The McPherson volleyball team swept through the Chanute tournament Saturday, posting a perfect 5-0 record to claim the championship behind a dominant offensive performance led by Ava Romero's 54 kills.
The Bullpups opened pool play with a hard-fought three-set victory over Girard (19-25, 25-14, 25-7) before dominating Erie (25-7, 25-4) and Paola (25-20, 25-23) to advance to bracket play. McPherson continued their strong form in the semifinals, defeating Frontenac in three sets (21-25, 25-13, 25-13) before avenging their opening-match struggles with a convincing finals victory over Girard (25-18, 25-9).
Romero was exceptional throughout the day, recording 54 kills, 36 digs, 15 aces, and 5 blocks in the complete performance. Brooke Doile added 43 kills, 35 digs, and 5 aces, while Elley Paulsen contributed 33 kills, 5 aces, and 4 blocks. Carmin Pavlovich rounded out the balanced attack with 27 kills, 25 digs, 6 aces, and 5 blocks.
Setter Riley Whitfield orchestrated the offense with an impressive 139 assists while adding 26 digs and 5 aces. Adelyn Barrow anchored the back row with 26 digs alongside the defensive contributions from Romero, Doile, and Whitfield.
The tournament championship demonstrates McPherson's depth and ability to maintain high performance levels across multiple matches in a single day.
