The McPherson High School JV girls tennis team capped off their regular season in spectacular fashion, claiming first place with 31 points at their final tournament of the year. The Bullpups outpaced Newton Gold (27 points), Winfield (22 points), Derby (15 points), Newton Black (13 points), Ark City (12 points), and Hutchinson (11 points) behind a remarkable showing where all eight competitors reached their respective championship matches.

Leading the charge was Ava Miller, who dominated No. 1 singles with a perfect 3-0 record, dropping only two games all afternoon according to head coach Ricardo Sanchez. "Her movement on the court and her ability to change her shots helped her win some long rallies," Sanchez noted. Emily Reno matched Miller's perfection in No. 2 singles, mounting an impressive comeback in her championship match after falling behind 0-2 to win 6-2. The doubles competition featured an all-McPherson championship match in No. 1 doubles, with Audra Sandbo and Sadie Krug (3-0) edging teammates Brenna Sullivan and Maddie Ekholm (2-1) for first place. Anne-Marie Holmes and Azul Palacios earned second place in No. 2 doubles despite a heartbreaking 5-6 loss in their final. "My favorite part of the tournament is that all of these players are so coachable," Sanchez said. "I'm able to talk strategy with all of them and in the very next game I see them try to execute what we discussed." The Bullpups will wrap up their season Thursday at the JV League tournament in Buhler.
