McPherson artist Louise Hutchison to exhibit light-focused works at Hutchinson Art Center

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Art Center will showcase the work of McPherson artist Louise Hutchison in its Main Gallery from January through February, with an opening reception scheduled for Jan. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The free public reception will feature light refreshments, live music and an opportunity to meet the artist. The exhibition runs through Feb. 27, 2026.

Hutchison works primarily in pastel on paper and oil on linen or panel, focusing on how light interacts with her subjects. Her portfolio includes portraits, figure paintings, still lifes and landscapes.

"I feel that being an artist is a privilege as well as a gratifying existence," Hutchison said. "I concentrate on the light and the quiet beauty that surrounds us everyday."

The artist said she selectively captures elements of her subjects rather than rendering every detail visible to the eye.

"The true artistry emerges as my vision of selected elements is assembled, while capturing the subject's essence in a quiet and pleasing way," she said.
