MCPHERSON ALUMNI RETURN FOR PIANO CONCERT
Duo recital features classical works by renowned composers
MCPHERSON, Kan. — Two accomplished McPherson College alumni will perform a free duo-piano recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in Mingenback Theatre as part of the Fern Lingenfelter Artist Series. Daniel Masterson, a Bethany College music professor, and Jean (Lichty) Hendricks will present works by Arensky, Borodin, Brahms, Debussy, and Rachmaninoff.
Both performers have deep family connections to the college spanning multiple generations. Masterson, who holds a doctorate from the University of Illinois and serves as a nationally certified music teacher, comes from a family where his grandfather graduated in 1918 and his mother, wife, and three sisters all attended McPherson College. Hendricks, who earned her doctorate from the University of Kansas, represents a family legacy that includes her parents (1940s graduates), husband Francis, and grandchildren Darren and Rachael as college alumni. The concert series honors Fern Lingenfelter, a longtime local piano teacher whose son established the fund supporting these annual performances.
